SCHOOL PICTURES AT CJHS:

School picture day at CJHS is Friday, September 3.

All students, all faculty, and all staff members will have pictures made for the yearbook TODAY -- free of charge.  If students or parents would like to purchase these pictures, complete an order envelope, place your money in the envelope, and seal it. The student must return the envelope directly to the photographer before his/her picture is taken on the morning of picture day.

We will not go to first period, but everyone should report directly to second period when the 8:00 a.m. bell sounds.  We will have an extended second period while seventh grade students and teachers smile for the camera and an extended third period while eighth grade students and teachers smile for the camera.  The support room will be closed.

As classes are called, teachers should escort and supervise students and be first in line to have a picture made.  Students' pictures will be grouped behind their teacher's pictures and will be returned in this order.  Every student should be prepared to give the photographer his completed order form having it accessible before his picture.

We will return to regular bell schedule for first lunch/fifth period.

Pictures will not be made for students who are not in dress code.

PLEASE ANNOUNCE TO STUDENTS:
Student tickets for the varsity football game tonight are on sale in the attendance office for $3 until 12:00 noon today.

Monday, September 6, is a CISD holiday.  Regular classes resume on Tuesday, September 7.

CJHS Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7, at 6:30-7:30 p.m.  We hope that your parents can come visit our campus and meet our faculty.  Students are invited to attend with parents.

ONE-ACT PLAY
One-Act Play auditions at CJHS are scheduled for September 8, 4:00-5:00 p.m., in the auditorium.  Students may pick up audition information and scripts at the table outside the main office.  In order to participate, students/parents must comply as follows:
1.  Forms must be signed by student and parent.
2.  Students must be passing all classes with a grade of 70 or above.
3.  Students can have NO discipline reports on file.

The year, CJHS will be performing "John Lennon & Me' by Cherie Bennett.  Hollywood-wannabe Star, the ultimate Beatles fan, has her path stymied by an inherited disease that assures a young death.  She spends most of her time in the hospital where she confronts fate with imagination by surrounding herself with MTV-inspired bodyguard Flunkies and 'morphing' her dreaded therapy nurse into a pro-wrestler.  Then, Star gets a new roommate Courtney who is Star's opposite, a pretty cheerleader and apparently not very sick.  Neither girl knows much about the other's world, but eventually they come to understand each other, and ultimately, themselves.  This is a powerful play about living life to the fullest and a proven hit for school theatres.

Seventh grade class officer applications are due to Ms. Sanford in Room 313 on September 7 by 3:30 p.m.   Candidates will be allowed to hang up posters on this day.

UIL EVENT -- ART:
The art contest involves the study of forty paintings from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and from Texas art galleries and museums.  Students learn to recognize and identify various works of art and the artists who created them.  As part of their study, they will demonstrate a basic understanding of art history and interpret ideas and moods in original art works.  The coach for UIL Art is Mr. Franklin Head.

UIL EVENT -- CALCULATOR APPLICATIONS:
The calculator applications contest is designed to stimulate the development of mathematical and calculator skills.  Goals are both intellectual and practical:  developing mathematical reasoning and knowledge and requiring the application of problem-solving skills toward realistic problems.  Calculator Applications is coached by Ms. Jennifer Myers and Ms. Michelle Cocklin.

UIL EVENT -- DICTIONARY SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the dictionary is a way to increase a student's ability to find the information that is needed for class work as well as everyday living.  The subject matter of all tests is taken from the Meriam Webster's Intermediate Dictionary.  Contestants may use other dictionaries in the contest, but the correct test answers will be found in the official dictionary.  Mrs. Jennifer Zett is the UIL Dictionary Skills coach.
